WHAT ARE NEUROTOXINS?

Neurotoxins are injectable medications that temporarily block the nerve signals that tell specific facial muscles to contract. Botox and Dysport, the two most widely used neurotoxins, both contain the same active ingredient (botulinum toxin type A) and are FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead lines in adults. When used early enough, they can also help prevent the formation of deeper expression lines before they develop.

Botox and Dysport are used most commonly to address areas where repeated muscle activity has created visible expression lines. At Hartwater Aesthetics, our master injector Lindsey Burris, RN most frequently treats the following areas:

  • Glabellar lines (the "elevens" or frown lines between the brows)

  • Crow's feet (wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes)

  • Forehead creases (horizontal lines across the forehead)

  • Perioral lines (lines around the corners of the mouth)

  • Mentalis dimpling (a "cobblestoned" appearance to the chin)

Beyond these cosmetic indications, Botox is also FDA-approved for the medical treatment of chronic migraines and severe primary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and is commonly used off-label for TMJ disorder and teeth grinding. See the Off-Label Uses section below for more on those applications. Every neurotoxin treatment plan at Hartwater is customized to your specific anatomy, expression patterns, and aesthetic goals, with a focus on natural, expression-preserving results rather than the over-treated or frozen look.

BOTOX VS. DYSPORT: WHICH IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Botox and Dysport are both botulinum toxin type A injectables that temporarily relax the muscles responsible for expression lines. They share the same active mechanism, but they are formulated differently and behave differently in the tissue. The right choice depends on your facial anatomy, your treatment area, and your prior injectable history.

Dysport uses smaller protein molecules than Botox, which allows it to diffuse more broadly through the tissue once injected. This makes Dysport often the preferred choice for larger areas like the forehead, where smooth, even relaxation matters more than precise localization. Botox, with its larger molecule and tighter spread, tends to be preferred for smaller, more targeted areas like the area between the eyebrows or around the eyes, where precision matters most. Onset is also slightly different: Dysport tends to show initial effect in 2-3 days, while Botox tends to take 4-7 days for full results.

The two products are dosed differently. As a general rule, 100 units of Botox is roughly equivalent to 300 units of Dysport. This means a "unit" of Dysport is not the same as a "unit" of Botox, and price comparisons should be made on a per-treatment basis, not per-unit. At Hartwater, our master injector Lindsey Burris, RN determines the appropriate product and dosage at consultation based on your individual anatomy and goals.

As a Galderma Aspire President Tier practice, Hartwater is among the top providers of Dysport in the nation, with deep clinical experience in both products. Many of our patients have a preference based on prior treatment history, and we always honor that preference when it is clinically appropriate. For patients new to neurotoxin treatments, Lindsey will recommend the product best matched to the specific treatment areas you want to address.

WHY HARTWATER FOR BOTOX & DYSPORT IN MCKINNEY

Master Injector Lindsey Burris, RN

Lindsey Burris, RN personally performs Botox and Dysport injections at Hartwater. With more than 15 years of aesthetic experience, KOL speaker status, and her background as Director of Nursing for a leading plastic surgery practice, Lindsey brings the kind of surgical-grade anatomical command and precision that most med spa injectors simply do not have. She also teaches other providers across the country, including Morpheus8 masterclasses on injectable and energy-based protocols.

Full-Time On-Site Medical Director

Every Hartwater treatment plan, including injectables, is reviewed and approved by Scott Bradley Burris, MD, our Medical Director with more than 35 years of clinical experience. Dr. Burris is on-site at the practice full-time, in stark contrast to the typical med spa model where the medical director is an absentee physician who rarely sees patients in person. This level of physician oversight is increasingly rare and increasingly important as the injectable industry grows.

Galderma Aspire President Tier (Dysport)

Hartwater Aesthetics is a Galderma Aspire President Tier practice, placing us among the top providers of Galderma products (Dysport, Restylane, Sculptra) in the country. This recognition reflects high-volume Dysport expertise and gives Hartwater patients access to Aspire loyalty pricing and rewards that lower the long-term cost of treatment.

Natural Results, Conservative Dosing

We do not over-treat. Lindsey's injection philosophy emphasizes precision placement, conservative dosing, and patient-specific anatomy. The goal is for someone to compliment you on how rested or refreshed you look, not on how much Botox you have had. If you are looking for the frozen or overdone look, Hartwater is not the right practice for you. If you want results that look like a better, more rested version of yourself, you are exactly the patient we treat best.

WHICH PILLAR OF AGING DOES BOTOX ADDRESS?

Botox and Dysport sit at the intersection of Pillar One (Skin Quality) and the prevention of expression-line aging. While they do not directly treat laxity or volume loss, they relax the underlying muscles that cause repeated creasing, which slows the development of permanent fine lines. Used preventively, they protect the work you have already done on the other two pillars.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX COST IN MCKINNEY, TX?

Hartwater Aesthetics publishes transparent per-unit pricing for both Botox and Dysport. The total cost of a treatment depends on the area being treated and the number of units required, which is determined at consultation based on your individual anatomy and aesthetic goals.

A few important notes on neurotoxin pricing. First, "units" are not interchangeable between products: 100 units of Botox is roughly equivalent to 300 units of Dysport, so always compare total treatment cost rather than per-unit cost. Second, typical dose ranges vary by treatment area. A first-time forehead and glabellar treatment commonly requires 20-40 units of Botox or 60-120 units of Dysport. Heavier muscle groups, such as the masseter for jaw slimming or TMJ relief, may require higher doses. Finally, as a Galderma Aspire President Tier practice, Hartwater offers Aspire loyalty rewards on Dysport, Sculptra, and Restylane that can meaningfully reduce long-term cost for ongoing patients.

OFF-LABEL USES FOR BOTOX

Botox is FDA-approved for several cosmetic and medical indications, and is also used off-label for a growing list of conditions where it has shown clinical benefit. At Hartwater, our physician oversight allows us to offer several of these treatments under appropriate medical supervision.

Botox for TMJ and Teeth Grinding

Botox injections into the masseter muscle can relieve the pain and tension associated with TMJ disorders and chronic teeth grinding (bruxism). The treatment relaxes the overactive jaw muscles that drive the symptoms, and has the additional cosmetic benefit of slimming a square jaw line over time. Speak with your Hartwater provider at consultation about whether you are a candidate.

Botox for Chronic Migraines

Botox is FDA-approved for the prevention of chronic migraines in patients who experience headaches on 15 or more days per month. The treatment protocol involves injections at specific anatomical sites across the head and neck and is most effective when administered by a provider with deep injection experience. Consult with your physician about whether you meet the diagnostic criteria.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Botox is FDA-approved for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) in patients who have not responded adequately to topical treatments. It can also be used off-label for excessive sweating of the palms, soles, and other areas. Most patients experience significant relief for 4-6 months per treatment.
