HOW MORPHEUS8 WORKS: RF MICRONEEDLING AND SUBDERMAL REMODELING
Morpheus8 works by delivering radiofrequency energy through an array of insulated microneedles that penetrate the skin to a controlled, adjustable depth. The radiofrequency energy heats the dermis and the layer of adipose tissue beneath it, creating thousands of microscopic columns of controlled thermal stimulation. The body responds to that stimulus the way it responds to any controlled injury: by producing new collagen and elastin to rebuild and reinforce the treated tissue.
What makes Morpheus8 unique among non-surgical skin tightening treatments is that it addresses laxity from beneath the skin rather than from the surface. One of the most common questions Lindsey hears from patients researching skin tightening is some version of: "Should I be considering a facelift instead?" The honest answer requires understanding what each treatment actually does to the skin, because the two are often discussed as if they were doing the same thing. They are not.
A facelift is a surgical procedure that removes loose skin and repositions the underlying tissue. The remaining skin is then pulled tight and resutured. A facelift does not improve the elasticity, collagen content, or quality of the skin itself. The skin you have at the end of a facelift is the same skin you had at the beginning, simply with some of it cut away and the rest pulled tight. Morpheus8 takes the opposite approach. We begin by applying a topical numbing cream to the treatment area and allowing approximately 30 to 45 minutes for it to take effect. For more sensitive areas or for patients who prefer additional comfort, your provider may also use a local injectable anesthetic or pro-nox inhaled analgesia.
